One of the toughest things to see is a child traumatized early in life and the impact it carries into their future. A young boy named Coby Daniel was shot in his arm by his neighbor, with the reasoning being due to him leaving his bicycle in his neighbor’s yard. Now the young child, who is only 6 years old, is having difficulty sleeping and enjoying his everyday life. The scary part was that this child almost lost his life, but the area I want to focus on is that his life will be impacted forever. For a child to not be able to go outside and to ride his bike because of the fear of being shot is a sad reality that Coby and his family will have to endure for his life. For children nowadays, the trauma of gun violence has only grown and is a serious matter that we must address. The trauma that is impacting this child is costing him to be who he is and to do things that a normal 6-year-old would engage in. While the article talks about how important therapy is, I have come to believe that what we are doing here at STRYV365 has allowed children to find a unique method to express and engage themselves in methods to help combat their respective trauma. I agree that therapy may be a great solution, but for a child, they need to find ways to be more engaged and interactive with their peers. I have come to find that the work we are doing here at STRYV365 has helped the youth engage and find ways to express themselves, with them wanting to partake and finding a unique method to grow. I hope that Coby is able to get through his fight with his trauma and I believe he will because of the wonderful resources that are out there for kids who need these unique methods.
