A lot of people think that celebrities, athletes, and famous people are truly the happiest people. The reality is that happiness is solely not due to achieving financial success or by becoming a household name.
On June 14, 2020, I woke up to the news of Bollywood rising star Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide. When I watched his movies, I always saw a confident young man who was going to change the world with his amazing movies and the messages that he provided within his roles. After this tragedy, it led me to research more about Sushant. Learning more about his personal life, he had lost his mother at an early age and was never truly happy with his life. He always felt put down and never had fair opportunities, which he continued to fight through but felt alone. This takes me to the concept of COPE.
Had someone sat down and just spoke with Sushant and taken the time to understand him maybe things would be different. Sushant never felt empowered because he was never provided the highest roles and when he did obtain them, they were taken away from him due to the politics of the industry.
Communication is important in understanding the other side, and sometimes the other side is afraid to speak on matters. But if we can make them comfortable then we can help them. A lot of times we look at the most successful people as invincible, but they are human beings just like everyone else, who need help and to feel positive throughout their daily lives.
