Most of 2020 has been wildly unpredictable and disconcerting in many respects. So much uncertainty around the virus, jobs being furloughed or cut, social injustice, bare grocery store isles, school closures and the list goes on and on. There is no arguing that this year has been one for the ages – a time none of us will forget.

Despite the challenging year, one piece of advice I received and found to be quite helpful in navigating these strange times is to use your down time to connect with someone you have not in a while. Whether it be a phone call to a grandparent, a facetime call with your cousin who you have not seen for months, or an email/text to a friend who moved away years ago.

Connectivity, positive relationships, and even just friendly conversations are instrumental to all our wellbeing. When times are tough, you never know who can pick you up with a simple word or two or to whom your voice might make all the difference if you reach out. If you don’t know where to start, take a look at your contacts and scroll until you find someone to give a ring or send a text – I bet you can find more than five names in less than five minutes!!
