Welcome to Part 2 in recognition of National Picture Book month! Picture books have come a long way since we were children. I have found that I love finding new and interesting picture books to read aloud, visit creative places filled with vibrant colors and images, and how picture books can even help us to increase our awareness: of ourselves, our community, and our world.

This second part we will focus on the theme of Social Awareness. These books help to address social awareness through perspective-taking, empathy, diversity and respect for others. Our six suggested books are: The Memory Tree (Britta Teckentrup), Chicken in the Kitchen (Nnedi Okorafor), Windows (Julia Denos), Last Stop on Market Street (Matt de la Pena), Why Am I Me? (Paige Britt), and Trey, the Chef (Kira Parris-Moore).
