Milwaukee Academy of Sciences (MAS) started its school year virtually due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Despite the numerous challenges that come along with educating and supporting over 1,300 students in a virtual world, MAS has made tremendous progress. Their faculty and staff secured WiFi hotspots and tech devices to allow students to connect with teachers, many of whom would otherwise be without access. Those same devices and newfound connectivity are what permit the STRYV365 team to share our peak team programming with teachers and students uninterrupted during these times of critical SEL need.
That said, nothing is easy for those members of our community who already experienced significant hardship prior to the pandemic. MAS’ CEO, Anthony McHenry, recently told Milwaukee’s FOX 6 News that 90% of their student body lacked an acceptable WiFi connection and/or device which only underscores the work still needed to level the playing field.
